Annalisa

I am a researcher, project manager and teacher mainly based in the Netherlands.

I teach Science and Technology Studies, Politics of Information Infrastructures and Algorithms, Societal Embedding of Technology, Interaction and Digital Arts at graduate and undergraduate level at the department of Science, Technology and Policy Studies (STePS), University of Twente (NL).

I have been trained in semiotics, sociology and media studies at the University of Bologna, hold a PhD in Information Society from the University of Milan Bicocca, and have been working as project manager and ethnographer of large-scale ICT projects for governmental organizations and engineering companies.

During my studies, I have been one of the initiators of the Telestreet network of neighborhood broadcasters. With the simple idea of reverse-engineering a TV receiver into a transmitter, 200 community broadcasters arose around Italy between 2002 and 2008. Since then I have never lost the pleasure of “opening machines up”.

Besides this, in my “spare time” (whatever that means) I go hiking and cycling, preferably in other continents.
