2022-2024 STS Italia Board elections – Thanks! // Elezioni del Direttivo di STS Italia 2022-2024 – Grazie!

On Saturday 11 December we received the outcomes of the 2022-2024 STS Italia Board elections. Here I publish the message we as elected board have circulated, and some more personal notes.

***English follows***

Dear all,

We are delighted with the large number of STS Italia members participating in last week’s elections: such a broad participation strengthens our commitment to represent the Italian STS scientific community. In agreement with the outgoing STS Italia Board, we have scheduled a meeting in Bologna (and online) on February 11, 2022 to present ourselves and thank the Board members who preceded us. As soon as possible, we will inform you about the logistics, the scientific program, and the agenda of the meeting.

We are excited to begin this new adventure and we get to work right away to start the next three-year 2022-2024 period in the best possible way.

Best regards, Simone, Annalisa, Paolo

Now, some more personal notes. I still remember when Marina Maestrutti (https://philosophie.pantheonsorbonne.fr/actualite/hommage-marina-maestrutti) told me she was running as vice-president of STS Italia. It was autumn in Paris, and her words were entangled with spirit of service, some concern and hope. Spirit of service and hope because she was deeply connected with the STS community and wished she could contribute to it. Concern because she did not the Italian system very well, as she was affiliated at Paris 1/Sorbonne since decades. At that time I thought it was very generous of her, taking responsibility for something she was not directly benefiting from. This was Marina: always giving, and turning her giving into an indirect enrichment. A true feminist scholar.

Six years later, I was tempted by the suggestion to run for vicepresident of STS Italia. With an ERC team to coordinate, a new book to write, my commitment to the EASST community (on whose Council I will sit until the end of 2022), new networks to create, the trust of Italian colleagues to build and indeed scarce knowledge of the Italian system myself, my first thought was “no way”. Yet I thought at that autumn day in Paris with Marina, and realized she also had other commitments when she accepted to run. For sure, she would have prodded me to accept. So, Marina, wherever you are, I hope you feel a bit responsible for this new adventure (while for sure all failures will fall on us, as in any work of creativity).
